Dear Jenny Barwise
Thank you for your excellent article in Saturday 19 July 2014 edition of the News & Star regarding our plans for a self build development at Flosh Meadows, Cleator.
My family and I had been celebrating the granting of planning permission that evening and it wasn’t until 11:30pm I sat down to read the News & Star.
To say your article finished in an excellent manner a delightful evening does not do justice to the feelings of my wife and I when we read the supportive comments.
I appreciate only so much can be included in a press article. And with no complaint at all I wish that the exceptionally supportive comments by Cllr Haraldsen highlighted in your piece could have been accompanied by the equally supportive comments by the Chairman of Copeland planning panel Cllr Blackwell and all others who unanimously supported us.
Indeed, Cleator Moor Town council when we discussed the matter with them prior to submitting our formal application to Copeland planning department to gain their advice and comments were very supportive; in fact all local councilors including and especially our ward councilors have shown full support.
It is becoming very apparent that the self build of a family home has strong supporters within the local parish & borough council.
If you consider a further article is possible on the matter of self build family homes I would be pleased to discuss this with you.
However, at this time following the last budget and more recently in mid July the call by central government for local authorities to be self build champions is proving to be an exciting time for the self build world and a challenging one for local councils.
I hope we can talk further on this matter.
Best Regards
Richard & Betty Mulholland
